3. Root Canal Therapy

Causes

Root canal therapy is a way to save a tooth that would otherwise require extraction. It is required when the nerve space inside of a tooth root becomes damages irreversibly. This is usually caused when dental decay is left untreated and extends to the nerve space. Other causes are trauma and severe gum disease. This treatment can almost always be avoided with reqular checkups and treatments before there is dental pain.

Symptoms
Sensitivity to cold, hot and biting may be some signs yet some teeth may need root canal therapy and not experience any symptoms

Treatment
At Big Smiles, we have advanced techniques to relatively painlessly clean out the nerve space and place a filling material into the nerve space. This is done over two visits. After this most teeth then require a crown to protect the tooth from further fracture.
